iPhone 18 Pro Release Date: Every Key Date in September 2026

Apple's event invitation is expected to go out tomorrow, August 26.

That one sentence tells you how close we are. Apple has followed the same pattern since 2022: invitations arrive exactly two weeks before the keynote. Tomorrow's invitation, if it arrives as expected, confirms the event for September 9. At that point, the guesswork is over and the calendar is set.

Here's everything known right now — the keynote date, pre-order date, on-sale date, and the unusual reason this year's schedule shifted by one day from what anyone expected.

The Keynote: Wednesday, September 9

The smart money says Wednesday, September 9, 2026. That's the most probable date that has been recently rumored. It's in the first full week of September, which is also when Labor Day falls this year.

The reasoning is straightforward. Labor Day falls on September 7 this year. Apple has never held its iPhone event the day after Labor Day — the Tuesday immediately following the holiday is off the table. That pushes the most likely date to Wednesday, September 9. The historical precedent is clean: the last time Labor Day fell on September 7 in a non-pandemic year was 2015, and Apple held its event on September 9 that year.

Mark Gurman at Bloomberg has weighed in on this, and the consensus among analysts is that September 9 is the date until proven otherwise.

What will be announced: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple's first foldable iPhone — currently being called iPhone Fold in the press, though the name iPhone Ultra has appeared in multiple leaks. Also expected: Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 are not part of this event — those are being held for a spring 2027 launch.

The Pre-Order Date: Saturday, September 12

This is where the calendar gets unusual.

Apple tends to ship its new models on a very consistent day: the Friday of the week following the event. Under the normal pattern, a September 9 keynote would mean pre-orders opening on Friday, September 11.

Apple not only avoids September 11 for keynotes but also for pre-order dates. Since September 11 falls on a Friday this year — the company's traditional day for pre-orders — that activity will begin a day later, on Saturday, September 12. Mark Gurman confirmed this adjustment.

There is a precedent for this. Back when the iPhone 6s event fell on Wednesday, September 9 in 2015, pre-orders began on Saturday, September 12 rather than Friday, September 11. Apple handled it the same way then. The shift is one day, not a week.

Saturday pre-orders open at 5:00 AM Pacific / 8:00 AM Eastern — the same time as Friday pre-orders would have. Set an alarm.

The On-Sale Date: Friday, September 18

The iPhone 18 Pro models are slated for an on-sale date of September 18.

This is the date devices ship to pre-order customers and appear on shelves in Apple Stores, carrier stores, and third-party retailers. For pre-order customers, delivery estimates on September 18 are only guaranteed if you place your order in the first minutes after pre-orders open — demand for a generation that includes Apple's first foldable is going to be high, and delivery windows slip quickly.

It remains to be seen if the iPhone Fold/Ultra is available at the same time as the iPhone 18 Pro models, but it might be limited to the U.S. at first. The foldable is a first-generation product with more complex manufacturing. Apple may announce it September 9 and ship it September 18, or it may announce it September 9 with a slightly later ship date. The September 9 keynote will clarify this.

One More Date: August 26

Tomorrow. That's when Apple is expected to send the event invitation, officially confirming September 9.

From the iPhone 14 onwards, Apple has consistently issued invitations two weeks to the day before the event. That means it is now always during the last week of August that Apple reveals the date.

The invitation itself is typically a short email and webpage update with the event's tagline and a date. It's confirmation, not new information — by the time it arrives, the date has usually been correctly predicted for weeks. But it starts the official countdown and triggers the pre-order planning process for everyone who's been waiting.

What's Actually Being Announced on September 9

For anyone not tracking the leaks: here's the confirmed and near-confirmed picture of what September 9 will cover.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max — the same 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes as the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. New features expected to include a variable aperture main camera (first on any iPhone), A20 Pro chip on TSMC's 2nm process, Gemini-powered Siri, and a larger battery. Price increases of $100–$200 over iPhone 17 Pro pricing are widely forecast.

iPhone Fold (or iPhone Ultra) — Apple's first foldable. 7.76-inch inner display in a 4:3 landscape orientation, 5.49-inch cover display, side-mounted Touch ID instead of Face ID, A20 Pro chip, starting above $2,000. The crease is reportedly the most visible improvement over any competing foldable.

Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 — also expected at the same event.

Not at this event: Standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, iPhone Air 2. Those are spring 2027.

What to Do Before September 12

If you're planning to buy the iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max on release day, the action items between now and September 12 are simple.

Watch the September 9 keynote — or at minimum, check the confirmed pricing immediately after. Price increases are widely expected, and knowing the exact numbers before pre-orders open helps you decide which configuration to order.

Decide on storage tier in advance. The default move for most buyers is to go one tier higher than they think they need — 256GB fills up faster than it used to, and moving from 256GB to 512GB costs less than filling up your phone. Have this decision ready before pre-orders open.

Have your payment method and trade-in information ready on Apple.com. Trade-in values are set at Apple's discretion and can change, but having your current device's condition information ready saves time on September 12.

Order a case before or immediately after pre-ordering. iPhone 18 Pro cases from established manufacturers will be available as soon as the official dimensions are confirmed — which happens at the September 9 keynote. The first 72 hours of iPhone ownership account for a disproportionate share of first-year drops.

FAQ

When is the iPhone 18 Pro release date? Friday, September 18, 2026 — the date devices ship to pre-order customers and go on sale in stores. The announcement keynote is September 9. Pre-orders open Saturday, September 12.

Why are iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders on Saturday instead of Friday? The Friday after the September 9 keynote is September 11 — the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Apple has historically avoided using September 11 for major commercial dates. Pre-orders shift one day to Saturday, September 12. The on-sale date of September 18 is unaffected.

When does Apple announce the iPhone 18 event date? Apple's event invitation is expected August 26, two weeks before the keynote. This has been Apple's consistent pattern since the iPhone 14 launch in 2022.

Will the iPhone Fold be available on September 18? Probably, but not confirmed. The iPhone Fold may ship alongside the iPhone 18 Pro on September 18, or it may be announced September 9 with a slightly later ship date. Supply constraints for a first-generation foldable are a real factor. The September 9 keynote will confirm availability.

When does the standard iPhone 18 come out? Spring 2027 — most likely March or April. Apple is holding the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 for a separate spring launch. This is the first time Apple has split its iPhone lineup across two seasons.

Will there be a price increase for iPhone 18 Pro? Widely expected. Mark Gurman at Bloomberg has forecast potential increases of $100–$200 over iPhone 17 Pro pricing, citing chip shortages and advanced camera technology. Nothing confirmed until September 9.

How do I pre-order iPhone 18 Pro? Apple.com, the Apple Store app, or carrier websites (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon). Pre-orders open Saturday, September 12 at 5:00 AM Pacific / 8:00 AM Eastern. Have your payment method, trade-in device information, and storage decision ready before pre-orders open — delivery windows fill quickly.
